This is my pitch for my final magazine. I have left out some additional information which are listed below.

Name - Vivi
Price - £2.20

I chose these because the name is in a different language which often appeals to teenagers which my magazine will be aimed at. The price is £2.20 because in the survey i did, it showed that my target audience wouldnt be willing to pay more than £3 for a magazine.

Also the target audience was changed from that in the prezi, to 14-19 year olds.
Finally I had to change the colours i am using as they were not approved of in my feedback. The colours i will use in my magazine are blue, pink and purple.

First photo shoot

As i didnt have an actual camera for this photoshoot, i had to use my phone. This caused most of the images to blur and its in bad quality so i decided to get an actual camera and retake these photos in better quality which will be my second photo shoot.

These are some of my better images out of this first photo shoot. They are still in bad quality though so i will attempt to re-enact the photos with the better camera.

I am hoping to use one of these images below as the front cover image of my magazine when i re take them

I decided to try a lot of different poses as shown by all these images i have taken. This has helped me because i now know what type of poses would suit my genre the best and which pose would go best with my models. 

Model Confirmation

Out of all of the people i know, i figured that Beth and Joanna would be the most suitable models for my pop magazine as they look more 'pop' than my other friends do. Thankfully both of them agreed to help me with my media. I have also asked my niece and her friends if they would act as a pop band and allow me to take photos of them and they agreed. I can use the pop band as a sub image on the front cover along with Beth.

Music Magazine Research

1) Q 
Although it is based in the UK, there is plenty of information in Q to keep an American pop fan coming back for more. Each monthly issue is a mini-book stuffed with loads of reviews of albums and music-related movies, DVDs, and books as well as current download lists, great interviews, coverage of key events in pop music history and writing that revels in an edgy sense of humor.



2) Rolling Stone
This magazine is one of the most well known ones in the music industry. A five star review in the Rolling Stone magazine would carry a lot of weight in the music business. This magazine is mainly rock however quite a lot of people who are into pop music read it.



3) Billboard

If it's not on a Billboard chart, most of the music industry says it's not on a chart. Its origins go clear back to 1894, but it is only since about the 1930's that Billboard has been a major player in the music industry. You don't go to Billboard for criticism in reviews or for witty writing. However, the data makes it the weekly magazine of record for popular music worldwide.

4) Blender
If you like lists about music, Blender is the magazine for you. The controversial magazine first appeared as a CD-ROM based publication in 1994 before re-organizing as a print magazine in 1999. Snarkiness and a fondness for female flesh frequently find their way into Blender'spages, but there is some very useful and informative pop music commentary lurking behind the scenes.



5) Paste
Paste was first published as a quarterly music magazine in 2002. It became a monthly in late 2006 and has very quickly positioned itself as the discerning pop music fan's publication of choice. 



5) Top of the Pops
This is one of the most well known, teen, pop music magazines Top of the Pops magazine is a monthly publication published by Immediate Media Company. It features chart information, star gossip, fashion and beauty advice, quizzes, song lyrics and posters. It is a supplementary magazine for the TV show Top of the Pops until the latter was cancelled in 2006.



6) We <3 Pop 

We Love Pop Magazine is a full colour Monthly magazine dedicated to the world of Pop music. It’s the perfect magazine for anybody who loves Pop.It contains interviews with the world’s biggest Pop stars such as Justin Bieber, The Wanted, One Direction and many more. Along with all the latest Pop news from around the globe there are amazing pictures and 10 free posters with each issue.

Also included in We Love Pop, is an Agony Aunt feature with a different celebrity each month, Twitter news, online links and downloads, competitions and lots more. Its usually placed with Top of the Pops and Billboard when it comes to ranking the most well known, pop magazines. This magazine is also aimed mainly towards teenagers and pre-teens.

Sub-Genre Research

As my main category of Music is Pop, i have decided to look at different sub-genres of it.

 4 of the sub-genres i've found are teen-pop, bubblegum-pop, euro-pop and dance-pop.

1.  Dance- pop is dance oriented pop music. Dance- pop is a very popular style and there are many artists and groups who perform in the genre. Some of the most noticeable ones include

• Jennifer Lopez
• Kylie Minogue
• Usher
• Lady Gaga
• Katy Perry
• Backstreet Boys
• Kesha
• Rihanna 


2. Teen-pop is created, marketed and oriented towards pre-teens and teenagers. Typical characteristics include auto tuned vocals, emphasis on visual appeal and lyrics focusing on teenage issues. To begin with, groups like the Spice Girls and Atomic Kitten used this type of music. Also singers such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera began with this style.
3. Bubblegum-pop is very similar to Teen-Pop and is usually noticed as a genre of pop music with an upbeat sound and often unknown singers. A large number of Bubblegum-pop songs were created by one hit wonders such as The Ohio Exress and the Archies.
   
   
4. Euro-Pop is a derivitave form of Bubblegum-Pop. Some Euro Pop stars came from France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Poland; but most were Swedish in Origin.

Semiotics Overview

Semiotics is the study of signs and sign processes, indication, designation, likeness, analogy, metaphor, symbolism, signification, and communication. 

Semiotics is closely related to the field of linguistics, which, for its part, studies the structure and meaning of language more specifically. 

However, as different from linguistics, semiotics also studies non-linguistic sign systems. Semiotics is often divided into three branches:

• Semantics: Relation between signs and the things to which they refer; their denotata, or meaning
• Syntactics: Relations among signs in formal structures
• Pragmatics: Relation between signs and sign-using agents

For example if you see red you automatically think danger and stop. If you see green then you think go and nature. These have been taught to us through living our normal everyday lives. However its not just colours that can be used. Pictures, words, colours and sounds can normally be used. This will help a lot when it comes to creating my own magazine.

This has helped as i can now understand what people may think when they look at an image or words. I can use this in my own magazine to attract the target audience.

Rationale

Front cover

Image - The main image i will use will be of my friend Katie. She looks like a pop artist and therefore fits into my magazine well. I will use a midshot of her looking straight at the camera so it familiarises with the audience, making it more personal and gives a direct mode of address. It will use natural lighting which will make the image feel less formal.. I will edit this image on photoshop, increasing the contrast slightly to help with how i would like the image presented.

Secondary images - I will use no secondary images on the front cover.

Text+Masthead - I downloaded a font from dafont.com called BadaBoom BB and this is the main font i will use throughout my magazine as it seems more pop than any other fonts i could find. This was the font fits in to my music magazine genre. My masthead uses the same font however i have made it in italics to stand out and purple to fit in with my colour scheme.

Colour scheme - My colour scheme will be purple, pink, and blue. This is a huge mixture of colours but there is colours for both males and females in it. I will also use the general colours of black and white that is seen in every magazine.

Cover Lines - The cover lines i will use are of one other famous singer and two random cover lines.

Puff - My puff will be advertising free concert tickets for a famous singer which is well-known so people will want to buy my magazine.

Flat Plans

This is my flat plan for my actual music magazine final product. I have included all the main features generally shown such as the banner, masthead, main image, main sell line, essential information and several cover lines. In order to create my own magazine, will i use this to follow.




















I wasnt sure how i wanted my front cover to look like so i created two flat plans. The second one is shown to the left. I have still used all the normal conventions however i have added some extra things such as a website and sub images.

This is my flat plan for my contents page. I have used all the main items seen in actual magazine contents page. I may change a few things when creating the actual magazine but i will try to follow this flat plan as much as possible.

This is my flat plan for my double page spread. I have used the main conventions normally seen in an actual magazine such as the main image, body of text, masthead, pull quote and title.

Lighting

For my own photos i am going to be using artificial light in the background. I will also try and experiment with natural light.

Mood Boards

This is a presentation to show the different types of poses. I will use these ideas when trying to create my own magazine. By doing this research i have found out that most magazines use the same general conventions. The images used are, quite often, fairly similar in expressions (carefree and chocolate box) and poses (medium close up and midshots). For my magazine i may convert the image convention by using a long shot on my front cover. Or my second idea, if that fails, is to use a mid shot.

On the contents page there is a mix of either having just one image or a few images. On my magazine i think i will use quite a few images to make up for the lack of images on the front cover. I will have to use my main artist again on my contents page that was on my front cover as that is what most magazines tend to do.

On my double page spread i will follow the conventions that most magazines use and use the image to attract the audiences attention by making it cover at least a whole page, maybe more.

Camera Angles And Positioning

These two angles above are high angles. These are photos took from a high point above the object or person.

This is a low angle. Its a photo taken from a low point, looking up on the person or object.

This is a close up. It is an image taken close enough so you can see what it is but not too close that its focusing on one thing (Eg. her whole face not just her eyes)

This is a long shot. When using people, this is a long shot showing the whole person.

This is a mid shot. Its generally taken from the shoulders up.

These first 4 images are of the location i want the most. Its at West Sunniside in Sunderland. It would have to be at night like in these photos but i think it will have a great effect of my images.

The image to the right is of Dalton Le Dale park which is my second option should problems arise with the first.

Finally as a third option, just along from Dalton Le Dale park is an old structure. I think this could be an interesting place to take a photo shoot if both the options above become unavailable.

The Recce

Are there any potential hazards that could pose a health and safety risk where your photo shoot will take place (trailing cables/traffic/other objects )?
I have chosen my photo shoot to take place in West Sunniside, Sunderland. This may have potential hazards as i am planning on taking the photos at night, when it is dark. This is due to the fact the fountains and lights are usually on at night. The water may make it a bit slippery so i will have to make sure that the model/s and i are careful around the fountains. Also, as it will be dark, there is the potential hazard of tripping over something. I will have to make sure that, when not doing to actual photo shoot, the area is well lit (probably by using a flashlight). 

Will the time of day/weather affect the outcome of the photos? Have you allowed for this?The time of day will have to be night as that is when the lights generally get switched on and if they are not switched on then the image will not look as good as i hope. If, for some reason, the lights don't get switched on then i will have to choose a different area for my photo shoot. The weather will likely be cold and cloudy as it is on a night which is fine. If it rains or snows then that will present an issue when taking the photos. If that happens then teh photo shoot will either move to a different place or day.

Have you considered the background to your photos, particularly if taken outside? How will you ensure you will get the background you want?
I have a few ideas on backgrounds to my photos. The one i really want to use is the fountains at West Sunniside. However if i cant use that for some reason then i will have to either use a field or park, probably Dalton Le Dale as that has both a grassy area and a park area. If there are people in the places i want to take the photo shoot at the time then i would ask them politely if i could quickly take some photos in that area or i would wait for a bit until they leave.

Do you need permission to take photos in the place/venue you have in mind?
As both places are available to the public, i will not need permission to take the photos there.

Do you need to book time in a room (eg the photography studio at Shiney)?
I wont need to book any time anywhere as both my locations are outside and available to use at any time.
 
Are other people/crowds likely to be an issue for you? What have you done to ensure that it will not spoil the effect?
I will go to the place to take the photo shoot at a time when there wont be many people around so it will not be an issue to me.

Are you reliant on lifts/props/friends’ equipment/models? How have you planned that these things will come together at the appointed time? Plan B?
I can get to any of the locations at any time i need to so that wont be an issue. The props would be easy to gather, if i will be using any. I am hoping that the models will be available at the time i need them however if they are not then i can easily persuade some of my family members to stand in for them instead. I have already forewarned the people in question that they may be needed to model for me to take a photo shoot.

Kerrang, Mojo and Q are all owned by Bauer Media. Bauer Verlagsgruppe has been managed by four generations of the Bauer family. The Bauer Publishing Group comprises 300 magazines worldwide in 15 countries, as well as TV and radio stations. Bauer started in the UK with the launch of Bella magazine in 1987 and as H Bauer Publishing became Britain's third largest publisher. Bauer further expanded in the UK with the purchase of Emap Consumer Media and Emap Radio in 2008 to become the UK's biggest publishing group.

The magazine publisher i would want to publish my magazine is IPC Media as it creates content for multiple platforms meaning the magazine can be accessed online, on mobiles and in print. It is also the UK's leading consumer magazine publisher and i am aiming my magazine mainly towards the UK and partially at the US.

Preliminary Task - Feed Back

This is the feed back sheet for my preliminary task which was to create a college magazine. The other people in my class helped to give constructive criticism and compliments to help us improve on the magazine. The feedback shows good things like the fact the layout was very good and the text was quite modern however we were also told that the magazine cover as an overall was fairly dull. Some people commented on the colour scheme saying that they liked it. The main piece of constructive criticism was that the image was pixellated. To fix this i will take a larger image to stop it being pixellated and i will use more colours on the magazine to make it less dull. I will also remember to add all the essential information such as the price which i forgot.

Preliminary Task

This is the cover of the page i created for my front cover of the college magazine for the preliminary task. I created this by using the flat plan i created however certain things, like the banner, were left out as it would not really be suited for a college magazine. Also there are more sell lines than i anticipated because i needed to fill up some of the space.

This is the contents page i have created. I used my flat plan to create it this way. I changed some of the things out of the flat plan like overlapping the title onto the image and leaving out the pull quote. This is because the image was too long and if i didnt overlap the title onto the picture then it would take up too much of the page and the actual contents would be too far down. We also had to think of a lot more page names as we didnt have enough to fill up the page.

Preliminary Flat plans

These are my two flat plans for a front cover and contents page of a college magazine. I have used all the main features on a magazine on both the flat plans. These are things such as the mast head, the logo, main sell line, pull quote and essential information. When creating my own college magazine i will use these flat plans.

Preliminary Magazine Photoshoot

The first one is one of the original images we took but, after adding it to Photoshop, i changed it to make it better. The second one is the better changed one.

The one below is the one we chose as a final main image. 

It was edited on Photoshop to make it a brighter and increased the contrast to define the image more. Due to the fact that the main sell line was the grade improvements over the years we thought this image would be a good one for the front cover. This is because having two students that look like they're studying fits nicely. It is because of students studying for their lessons that the grades over the years have improved quite a bit.
